Unity Blog Hop 03.26.15!

Hooray—we’re hopping along to the tune of Unity!

I’ve got a couple of airbrushed tags to share with you today using one of the new releases, “Don't Be Like the Rest of Them” created by Jake Wangen. This kit is just the right amount of inspiration to get you going in a happy, creative way. My hubby recently surprised me with an airbrush kit and I couldn’t wait to get these images with my new toy.

dont be like the rest of them

What I like about using the airbrush is that you’re able to use just a drop or two of distress paint or ink in the airbrush and it goes a really long way.  In the above tag, I sprayed black soot distress paint over a custom (DIY) stencil and had AMAZING coverage. In just seconds, I had an awesome background to place the stamped images on.

So far, I’ve found the airbrushes to be effective for a few reasons—they cover an area pretty well, they push out air AND water which play nicely with distress inks, paints, and they’re fun with stencils.

Here’s another tag using some distress inks and inks from Dylusions Ink spray bottles. Of course, I could just spray it from the bottle, but it seems like you waste so much ink doing that and you don’t have much control. I was amazed and pleasantly surprised with the control of the airbrush.

always

I’m hoping to do an airbrush video once I gain more practice and discover what they can do for us. I hope you’re interested, too.

Here’s a peek at the new stamp set I used above, “Don’t Be Like the Rest of Them”.

In the video I’m sharing today, I use one of the sentiments from the NEW sentiment kit, “Thanks Above & Beyond” created by Lisa Arana with the above color prompt from this month’s Unity {be inspired} Challenge. The stencil that’s used in the kit was made using my Silhouette Cameo and the offset of the sentiment from the NEW sentiment kit in Silhouette Studio.

If you’re interested in making your own stencils with your Cameo, I used Darice Studio 71’s Non-Adhesive Stencil Film (4 mil thick). It comes in a pack of ten 8-1/2-x-11-inch sheets. I used the “cardstock” setting in Silhouette Studio to cut the stencil. It really WORKS well.  I’ve been making stencils like crazy. In fact, I’ve made 27 stencils so far, and I just got the first pack last week—WOW! These stencils are reusable as they can be washed following their use and stored for later. I’ve been fond of stencils in the past, BUT making custom stencils completes me somehow.

Here’s the stencil technique video—lots of stuff going on!

I used a stencil I made with my Cameo to decorate this tag using Distress inks and markers!

Here’s a look at the NEW sentiment kit.
